An enlarged prostate is a normal part of ageing, affecting around half of men over 60. Treatment is tailored to how much the symptoms bother you and, wherever possible, preserves sexual function.
CONDITIONS
Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH)

Symptoms
• Weaker flow
• Having to force the urine out
• Dribbling urine at the end of your stream
• Feeling like there is still more urine left within your bladder
• Frequently having to pass urine
• Waking up at night to pass urine

How We Diagnose BPH
• IPSS (International Prostate Symptom Score) and bladder (voiding) diary
• Prostate examination and PSA to help assess prostate size and exclude prostate cancer
• Urine test to exclude infection, blood or sugar
• Kidney function blood test
• Ultrasound or Flow test (uroflowmetry) to check bladder emptying

How We Treat BPH
• Watchful waiting and lifestyle changes for mild symptoms
• Medication
• Minimally invasive surgical treatments (MIST) – Rezūm, UroLift, iTind, prostate artery embolisation
• Endoscopic treatment – TURP, laser prostatectomy (e.g. GreenLight or HoLEP)
• Robotic or open simple prostatectomy
